Our Icons for Autism Day Launches Autism Awareness Month
FUNDS RAISED: £1,400
SMILES RAISED: THOUSANDS
THE LOOKS ON CHILDREN’S FACES WHEN THEY MET THEIR HEROES: PRICELESS!
Our Icons for Autism Day was the ultimate feel-good event; filled with all kinds of heroes and heroines, as well as some wonderful villains, it was the perfect way for us to launch Autism Awareness Month. Batman, Spider-Man, Storm Troopers, Daleks, Captain Jack Sparrow and even Cinderella joined us and eight of our volunteers dressed as ‘real-life’ autism heroes – people who inspire and uplift us by achieving amazing things while remaining true to themselves.
Many of our volunteers are on the autism spectrum and being part of something so amazingly positive really helped them feel more confident in social situations. The people we met in Redhill were lovely: smiling, enthusiastic and very supportive, and everyone there helped create the perfect atmosphere for bringing people together and showing them that in fact we’re all more alike than different, whether we’re on the spectrum or not. We raised a simply phenomenal £1,400, plus lots and lots of self-esteem and thousands of smiles.
What a brilliant, unforgettable and truly inspiring day!
